Document Reproduction
The Columbia Documentary History of American Women Since 1941 by Harriet Sigerman, From the Hoover vacuum cleaner to the fax machine, from the pill to reproductive rights, from Rosie the Riveter to Martha Stewart and Hillary Rodham Clinton, American women have grappled with a sometimes dizzying rate of social and economic change and continually shifting conceptions of gender. This collection documents the exciting and tumultuous recent history of American women, beginning with the watershed event of World War II and the lasting impact of the war effort on womens social and economic opportunities. Subsequent documents speak to the ideas and changes brought about by the womens movement; the challenges to and defense of reproductive rights; the backlash against feminism in the name of family values; and new visions for womens lives in the twenty-first century.
Archaeology and Text by John Moreland, Archaeology and Text challenges traditional assumptions about the relationship between history and archaeology by re-evaluating the role of artifacts and documents in the reconstruction of the historical past. Previous attempts to create a rapprochement between the disciplines have been undermined by a failure to see artifacts and documents as anything more than simple sources of information about the past. The central argument of this concise and original book is that both must be seen in terms of their efficacy in the past, in particular as technologies of power and resistance. Drawing upon recent work in theoretical archaeology, John Moreland puts forward a series of case studies from early medieval Europe, early modern North America, and the prehistoric Near East, to illustrate the ways in which both documents and artifacts were "activated" in the reproduction and transformation of power and identity. The concluding chapter warns that any contribution these arguments may make to the better understanding of the historical past will be negated if we fail to appreciate the very real dangers posed, to all the peoples of the past, by the recent "linguistic turn" in both disciplines.
Duplicating machines - Duplicating machines were the predecessors of modern document-reproduction technology. They have now been replaced by scanners, laser printers and photocopiers, but for many years they were the primary means of reproducing documents for mass distribution. Whiteprint - Whiteprint is the commercial terminology to describe document reproduction using the diazo chemical process. It is also known as the blueline or blue-line process. Questioned document examination - Questioned document examination is known by many names including forensic document examination, document examination, diplomatics, handwriting examination, and sometime handwriting analysis, although that name is not considered appropriate since it might be confused with graphology. Likewise a document examiner is not to be confused with a graphologist, and vice versa. Open Document Architecture - The Open Document Architecture (or sometimes referred to as Office Document Architecture or just ODA) is a standard document file format created by the ITU-T to replace all proprietary document file formats.
